WHERE TO TELL YOU

If I could tell you simply that words
cause pain and that sooner or later
they’re forgotten, I wouldn’t tell you.

If I knew how to love you as we love
those who aren’t ours or who’re far away,
I would beg you to forget me.

If there were one word bigger than the others
where I could tell you that words
are like facts, I would tell you.

But where, where can I find
that which no one looks for but which exists,
if I believe in nothing and in no one.

If I could tell you simply that words
cause pain and that sooner or later
they’re forgotten, I wouldn’t tell you.
